Arthur Marshall, Former Giants Receiver, Dies at 57
Marshall spent the final three of his five NFL seasons with the Giants after a trade from Denver.
Arthur Marshall, who played wide receiver for the Giants from 1994-96, has died at 57, Augusta, Ga., television station WFXG reported. He died last week after a battle with stomach cancer, according to the station.
Marshall went undrafted out of Georgia in 1992 and signed with the Denver Broncos, where he spent his first two NFL seasons and caught 853 yards and three touchdowns.
As a rookie, Marshall threw an 81-yard touchdown pass to teammate Cedric Tillman against the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 6, 1992, tying the NFL record for the longest completion by a non-quarterback, an 81-yard mark Gary Hammond of the Cardinals set in 1974, according to People.com and Pro Football Reference. Steelers punter Josh Miller matched it in 2003.
The Broncos traded Marshall to the Giants in April 1994 for a seventh-round pick, and he closed out his career over three seasons in New York, adding 414 receiving yards and a touchdown while also returning kicks. He finished with 87 catches, 1,267 yards and four touchdowns in 68 career games between the two teams.

Marshall was inducted into the school's hall of fame in 2023, according to WFXG.
Marshall pleaded guilty to two counts of bank fraud in October 2009 and was sentenced in June 2010 to 69 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release for a mortgage fraud scheme. He was also ordered to pay more than $3.6 million in restitution.
His obituary, published by Toale Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota, Fla., described him as “a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith.”
