Harbaugh names Dominic Zvada Giants' kicker, says Ben Sauls 'won a job in the league'
Both kickers finished the preseason without a missed field goal; the loser of the competition is now expected to catch on elsewhere fast.
Dominic Zvada is the Giants' kicker. John Harbaugh named the undrafted rookie the winner of the team's kicking competition after Friday's 23-6 preseason-finale win over the Jets, SNY's Connor Hughes reported from Harbaugh's postgame media availability.
"He'll win the job, he'll be the kicker," Harbaugh said, per the New York Post's Paul Schwartz.
The Athletic's Dan Duggan reported that Harbaugh called Friday night "the last step" in the competition.
Both kickers finished the preseason without a missed field goal. Zvada made all five of his attempts, with a long of 53 yards, and went 3-for-3 in the finale, from 53, 46 and 23 yards. Ben Sauls made all of his field-goal tries as well, from 46, 27 and 37 yards, according to Giants.com's game recap.
Harbaugh said Sauls "won a job in the league," Duggan reported. Duggan wrote that other teams could pursue Sauls on the trade market within 48 hours. The Giants hold the fifth waiver-claim priority for this cutdown cycle, and the claiming period for players released at Sunday's deadline runs through 1 p.m. ET Monday, according to Giants.com.
The Giants must cut their roster to 53 players by 6 p.m. ET Sunday.
