Calvin Austin III Carted Off Tuesday Practice With Apparent Knee Injury

Calvin Austin III was carted off the Giants' Tuesday practice field with what one source described to ESPN's Adam Schefter as a "serious" right knee injury. Austin's knee buckled on a non-contact rep, working a 1-on-1 in-cut route against cornerback Deonte Banks, according to the New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy, who was at practice. No diagnosis or timeline has been announced.
Austin, 27, signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Giants this offseason, according to the New York Post, after four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played receiver, rusher and returner in the Giants' 26-3 preseason win over Miami last Saturday. A day before the injury, head coach John Harbaugh was asked about him at practice.
"The nice thing about Calvin is that he can play all three (receiver) spots," Harbaugh said, per the Post. "You can move him around in any one of those positions. He's a 'smaller receiver,' and yet he can go outside. He's played outside a lot. You don't see that that often. So, he gives us a lot of versatility that way. Kind of everything you ask him to do, he does it well. He's very reliable. Runs the right routes, makes catches. He's been that way kind of his whole career."
