Nagy Had Two Call Sheets Ready for Cowboys Opener, Not Knowing Until Warmups Whether Nabers Would Play
The offensive coordinator said the plan he "never wanted to look at" stayed in his bag. Nabers played 36 of the Giants' 69 snaps in the 28-20 win over Dallas, his first game since tearing his ACL last September.
Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said he prepared two separate call sheets for the Week 1 game against the Cowboys because he did not know until pregame warmups whether wide receiver Malik Nabers would play.
A reporter asked Nagy on Thursday, during a news conference previewing the Giants' Week 2 game at the Rams, whether he had an "if Malik plays" call sheet and an "if Malik doesn't play" call sheet. "Yeah, I was a little bit stressed on that one," Nagy said, according to a giants.com transcript of the news conference. "I had two different call sheets, one stuffed in my bag, and I never wanted to look at it, because I just did not want to see that one."
Nagy said he prefers having Nabers on the field. "You certainly love to get him out there, and as I said last week, he's worth two guys when he's out there," he said.
Nabers, who tore his ACL on Sept. 28, 2025, was listed as questionable for the opener and did not decide to play until after a pregame workout, GiantsGator has reported. He played 36 of the Giants' 69 offensive snaps in the Giants' 28-20 win over the Cowboys on Sept. 13.
The Giants play at the Rams on Monday.
