Rams' Myles Garrett Headed to IR Before Week 2 vs. Giants, Rapoport Reports
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is having arthroscopic knee surgery and is headed to injured reserve, which would sideline him at least four games. The Rams had not filed the move as of early Monday.
Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett will have knee surgery and go on injured reserve, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning, which would keep him out of the Rams' Monday night game against the Giants on Sept. 21.
Rapoport reported the surgery is "to fix what had limited him in training camp." ESPN reported the procedure is arthroscopic and that Garrett missed most of camp with what coach Sean McVay called swelling in the knee. He played in Thursday's 27-7 loss to the 49ers in Melbourne without recording a tackle, and said at his postgame availability that the knee was not 100% healthy going into the game, according to the same report.
A player placed on injured reserve during the season must miss at least four games. On the Rams' schedule, that would cover the Giants, then games at Denver on Sept. 27, at Philadelphia on Oct. 4 and against Buffalo on Oct. 12. The earliest he could return is Week 6 against Arizona on Oct. 18.
The Rams had not announced the move as of 4:45 a.m. ET Monday. Their transactions page lists nothing after Sept. 10.
Garrett, the 2025 AP Defensive Player of the Year, had 23 sacks for Cleveland last season, an NFL single-season record, according to ESPN. The Rams acquired him in a June trade that sent Jared Verse and three draft picks to the Browns, per ESPN.
The Giants opened as 8.5-point underdogs at FanDuel, per Big Blue View.
