Overview

Dart became the Giants' starting quarterback in Week 4 of his rookie season and held the job until a knee injury in Week 2 of 2026 ended his second regular season. New York traded up into the back of the first round of the 2025 draft to take him 25th overall out of Ole Miss, where he set school passing records after transferring in from USC. He opened his rookie year as Russell Wilson's backup, but an 0-3 start pushed the Giants to hand him the job in Week 4, and he started 12 of the team's final 14 games.

The results were uneven in the way rookie quarterback seasons usually are — a 4-8 record as a starter, 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns against five interceptions — but the rushing numbers stood out: 487 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. A concussion in Week 10 sidelined him for two games, and Jameis Winston started both.

He came into 2026 with a new head coach, John Harbaugh, and a new offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy. He also had more around him than he did as a rookie: receivers Darnell Mooney and Odell Beckham Jr. and tight end Isaiah Likely joined a group that also got Malik Nabers back from the ACL tear that ended his 2025 season early. Dart opened the Harbaugh era by throwing three touchdown passes without an interception in a 28-20 win over Dallas in Week 1.

His second season stopped a week later. Dart injured his left knee in the first quarter of a 28-6 loss to the Rams on Sept. 21. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported two days later that he would need surgery and that his ACL was not torn, and Harbaugh said he would miss the regular season at least. The Giants placed him on injured reserve Sept. 24, and he had surgery Sept. 25, The Athletic's Dan Duggan reported. Winston, who had replaced him once before, took over as the starter.
