Giants Sign Dalen Cambre to 53-Man Roster as Insurance Ahead of Nabers' Questionable Week 1 Status

The move fills the spot left by Darius Slayton's release and comes a day after Malik Nabers was listed questionable with a knee injury — despite practicing fully all week.

The Giants signed wide receiver/special teamer Dalen Cambre from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Sept. 12, filling the spot opened when the team terminated veteran receiver Darius Slayton's contract Sept. 7, according to Yahoo Sports and the team's own transaction tracker.

The move comes a day after the Giants' official injury report listed Malik Nabers as questionable with a knee injury for Sunday's opener against Dallas, despite full practice participation Wednesday through Friday. NorthJersey.com/USA Today beat reporter Art Stapleton reported the Giants are "still going through combos of what game day roster will look like with actives/inactives and Malik Nabers' status," citing sources, and that Cambre's roster spot comes with a pay bump regardless of whether he's active or inactive Sunday. SI's OnSi reported separately that the Giants "have undoubtedly taken this step with Cambre to protect themselves just in case Nabers feels like he's not ready" — an analytical read from that outlet, not a stated team rationale.

Cambre, undrafted in 2025, appeared in seven games last season almost exclusively on special teams. He was waived Aug. 30 during final roster cuts, re-signed to the practice squad the next day, and did not make the Giants' initial 53-man roster out of camp. Head coach John Harbaugh has praised his practice performance, saying, "I see him make a circus catch every single day … he's doing special teams … he's running great routes."

With Cambre added, the Giants' active receiver group is Nabers, Darnell Mooney, Malachi Fields, Odell Beckham Jr. and Cambre. OnSi also reported Braxton Berrios is expected to be elevated from the practice squad for Week 1 as additional depth at the position.
