Giants Waive Dalen Cambre Two Days After Promoting Him
The receiver came up from the practice squad Saturday as insurance for Malik Nabers, then never dressed. His roster spot went to running back Phil Mafah.
The Giants waived wide receiver Dalen Cambre on Monday, two days after promoting him to the 53-man roster and one day after he was inactive for the season opener.
The team's transactions log lists the move as "WR Dalen Cambre - Waived, No Recall." Two entries above it, dated Sept. 12, is the transaction it undid: "WR Dalen Cambre - Free Agent Signing (from NYG PS)." Every other plain waiver on the Giants' 2026 log carries the same "No Recall" wording.
The Giants signed Cambre off their own practice squad Saturday, when Malik Nabers was questionable with a knee injury, into the roster spot opened by Darius Slayton's release five days earlier. Nabers was cleared to play, and Cambre was one of seven Giants inactives. He never took a snap.
Nabers, in his first game since tearing an ACL on Sept. 28, 2025, caught six passes for 69 yards on a team-high nine targets in the 28-20 win over Dallas.
The spot did not go to another receiver. The Giants signed running back Phil Mafah to the practice squad on Monday, the same day they worked out 10 free agents, four of them running backs.
Mafah, 23, was a seventh-round pick out of Clemson by Dallas in 2025, No. 239 overall. He opened his rookie season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury and played one game, in Week 18 against the Giants: five carries for 18 yards and a touchdown, plus two catches for 11 yards. Dallas waived him Aug. 30 in final cuts.
As of Tuesday morning the transactions log showed no further entry for Cambre. A player who clears waivers becomes a free agent.
