Giants' Brian Burns Believed to Have Torn ACL; Team Has Not Confirmed
Burns was hurt in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 12-7 win over Tennessee while playing through an ankle sprain. Coach John Harbaugh said Sunday there was "some hope" before the MRI.
Giants outside linebacker Brian Burns is believed to have a torn ACL from Sunday's 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning, citing sources who spoke to him and ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Giants have not announced the result of Burns' MRI.
ESPN reported that Burns is likely to miss the rest of the season. The Athletic reported that the Giants believe he tore the ACL, though they are hoping for a better outcome, and that a tear would sideline him for the rest of 2026. SNY reported that the tear is believed to be in his right knee and would need surgery that ends his season.
Burns was hurt with 11:02 left in the fourth quarter, and the Giants listed him with a knee injury. Coach John Harbaugh said at his postgame news conference that Burns would have an MRI. "There is some hope there, but we won't know until we see the MRI," Harbaugh said.
Burns was already playing through an ankle sprain from the Giants' Sept. 21 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He did not practice all week, was listed as questionable and came off the bench Sunday. Outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux started in his place.
The Giants (2-1) host the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 4.
