Giants Confirm Brian Burns' Low Ankle Sprain; Andrew Thomas' Groin Injury Still Undiagnosed
Harbaugh confirmed Brian Burns' low ankle sprain, and Burns spoke on it himself after Monday's loss to the Rams. Andrew Thomas' groin injury still has no reported diagnosis as the Giants prepare for Tennessee on a short week.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh told reporters Monday night that edge rusher Brian Burns has a low ankle sprain, the first specific diagnosis reported for an injury that forced Burns from the fourth quarter of the team's 28-6 loss to the Rams. ESPN's Jordan Raanan first reported the comment on X; it was independently confirmed by Yahoo Sports and New York Daily News beat writer Pat Leonard.
Burns confirmed the diagnosis himself in the locker room afterward. "It's just getting stiff, but it eases my mind. I know it ain't nothing serious, so that's all," he told reporters, according to ClutchPoints. He added that his recovery would start with "ice, compression" and staying off it, saying, "That's all you can do with sprains."
Left tackle Andrew Thomas, who also left the game Monday with a groin injury, has not been given a public diagnosis. Asked about Thomas' status after the game, Harbaugh said only, "We'll see about that," adding that none of the Giants' injuries were life-threatening, according to Yahoo Sports. No outlet had reported a specific diagnosis for Thomas as of Tuesday.
GiantsGator's initial report on the injuries, published in the hours after the game, did not yet have a diagnosis for either player.
Neither Burns nor Thomas has a return timetable. The Giants host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Sept. 27, on a short week.
