Giants' Running Back Depth Chart Remains Unsettled Entering Season
Cam Skattebo tops the Giants' unofficial depth chart, but coach John Harbaugh says the pecking order among the team's four running backs is still being determined.
The Giants have not set a depth-chart order among their four running backs — Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., Najee Harris and Devin Singletary — with the season opener against Dallas two weeks away, coach John Harbaugh said Aug. 23. "It's an ongoing pecking order," Harbaugh said. "It's ongoing right now. It's still to be determined over the course of the next week to see exactly where it shakes out. We'll keep working at it." Bolavip first reported the comments. The Giants have not addressed running back usage publicly since finalizing the 53-man roster Sunday.
An unofficial depth chart reported by ESPN's Jordan Raanan around Aug. 25-26 listed Skattebo alone at the top, with Tracy, Harris and Singletary bunched on the next line with no clear order — an alignment SI On SI reported the same week.

Preseason carries and catches did not match that order. Skattebo played in the Aug. 15 preseason opener against Minnesota — his first game back from an Oct. 26, 2025, ankle injury — and carried four times for 19 yards, SI On SI reported. He did not play in the next two preseason games; Big Blue Interactive reported he was on a pitch count coming off the injury.
Tracy carried twice for five yards against Minnesota. He carried six times for 26 yards with three catches for 22 yards against Miami on Aug. 22, per Big Blue Interactive, then four times for 37 yards and a touchdown against the Jets on Aug. 28, per Giants.com. He was the only one of the four backs to play in all three games, finishing with 12 carries and three catches, 15 touches total.
Singletary caught a 40-yard screen pass against Minnesota and added eight carries for 40 yards with a 13-yard touchdown and a four-yard catch against Miami, per Big Blue Interactive. He did not play against the Jets.
Harris was not on the roster for the first two games; the Giants signed him Aug. 18. He made his Giants preseason debut against the Jets with 11 carries for 39 yards and a 20-yard catch, 12 touches, per Giants.com.
Tracy missed a blitz pickup against Minnesota that preceded a sack of quarterback Jaxson Dart, who was evaluated for a concussion and returned to the game. "I heard something that had my eyes on the wrong side," Tracy said afterward. "It was really just on me." Harbaugh said afterward: "My feeling in that moment was we need to block better." Bleacher Report first reported the exchange. The following week, against Miami, Tracy lost a fumble in the red zone late in the first quarter, Big Blue Interactive reported.
Asked about Tracy's mistakes ahead of the roster deadline, Harbaugh said: "I don't think you say, hey, a bad play or even two bad plays nullifies a whole career body of work." SI On SI first reported the remark.
Full snap counts and target shares for the position group are not publicly available. The Giants open the season Sept. 13 against Dallas.
