McVay Says Garrett Is Having Knee Surgery and Going on Injured Reserve, Ruling Him Out Against the Giants

Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that edge rusher Myles Garrett is having knee surgery and will be placed on injured reserve, according to the team's website. That would rule him out against the Giants at SoFi Stadium on Monday, Sept. 21.
The Rams had not filed the move as of 5:30 p.m. EDT Monday, according to the team's transaction log.
A player placed on injured reserve during the season must miss at least four games. McVay would not set a return date. "You feel good about it, but I think it'd be unfair to him, or really just without having the totality of all the information, to put any sort of timeline on it," he said. "We know that he'll be available in four weeks potentially, and so we'll just take that a day at a time."
McVay said the Rams have not decided whether Aaron Donald will play against the Giants. "He's going to continue to work his process, and we'll see what that looks like," he said.
Garrett did not record a tackle in the Rams' 27-7 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night in Melbourne, Australia. He played 62% of the defensive snaps and said afterward, "This was the worst version of myself that I put out there," according to the team's website.
The Giants opened as 7.5-point underdogs and were 7-point underdogs at DraftKings on Monday.
