Giants Have No Emergency QB Behind Winston After Dart's Knee Injury

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Giants have no eligible emergency quarterback behind Jameis Winston after Jaxson Dart left Monday night's game against the Rams with a knee injury.
Dart did not return after taking a hard hit on his left knee in the first quarter, the Giants said. General manager Joe Schoen told ESPN sideline reporter Laura Rutledge that Dart is "going to be OK," Dan Duggan of The Athletic reported from the broadcast.
Winston is the only other quarterback on New York's active roster, per ESPN's roster listing. The Giants waived backup quarterbacks Jake Haener and Brandon Allen on Aug. 30, then re-signed Haener to the practice squad.
Under NFL rules, a club's emergency third quarterback must be on the 53-man roster and cannot be an elevated practice-squad player. That makes Haener ineligible to serve in that role Monday night, regardless of how long he has been with the team.
Dan Duggan, who covers the Giants for The Athletic, flagged the situation in a post during the game: "Since the Giants don't have an emergency QB, trying to figure out what they'd do if something happens to Jameis. No obvious candidates."
The Giants trailed the Rams 21-3 in the third quarter when Dart left the game.
