Giants Plan to Start J.J. McCarthy at Houston, Report Says
McCarthy threw for 243 yards in relief of Jameis Winston in the loss to New Orleans. The Giants had not announced a starter as of Wednesday afternoon.
The Giants plan to start J.J. McCarthy at quarterback Sunday at Houston, ESPN reported Wednesday, citing a source.
The team had not announced a starter as of 12:25 p.m. ET. Coach John Harbaugh said Monday, "We're working through that now, honing in on a decision."
Jameis Winston started the last four games after Jaxson Dart was hurt in Week 2.
McCarthy replaced Winston down 34-10 in the fourth quarter of the 34-27 loss to New Orleans on Oct. 18. He went 11 of 21 for 243 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Winston was 14 of 26 for 152 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
A GiantsGator analysis of McCarthy's fourth-quarter snaps found the sample too small to separate him from Winston or a league-average passer.
The Giants (3-2-1) and Texans (2-4) kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
