Harbaugh: Giants 'In the Process' of Adding a QB, Could Come Before Sunday

John Harbaugh said Friday the Giants are "in the process" of adding a quarterback and that it's possible before Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans, a firmer update than his comments two days earlier.

"We're in the process. That's really all I can probably say right now. We are going to have to do that," Harbaugh said, according to a transcript of his Friday press conference posted on giants.com. "Whether we can do it before the game or not, I don't know. But we're working on that. That's important to us."

Harbaugh also confirmed Jake Haener, a practice-squad quarterback, will back up Jameis Winston on Sunday. "Jake would be the backup Sunday, yes," Harbaugh said. Asked about his confidence in Haener, he said, "A lot of faith. I mean, he can throw it, man... He knows the offense. I have a ton of faith in him."

Harbaugh said that arrangement won't last beyond this week. "That's why we're okay with it for this game. But going forward, we just can't have two. So, we'll be adding guys," he said.

The comments are more specific than Wednesday, when Harbaugh said only that "all options are open" on a possible trade. As of Friday, the Giants' most recent roster move remained Jaxson Dart's placement on injured reserve Wednesday; no quarterback had been added. Dart, out for the season with a knee injury, had surgery Friday. Harbaugh said he had not yet heard how it went.
