Giants safety Jevon Holland was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September, the team announced Thursday.

Holland has three interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery through the Giants' first three games. His four takeaways lead the NFL, and his three interceptions are tied for the league lead with Las Vegas Raiders rookie cornerback Hezekiah Masses.

He has intercepted a pass in all three games. The last one sealed the 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 27, when Holland picked off Titans quarterback Cam Ward in the end zone on first-and-goal from the Giants' 7 with 17 seconds left.

The Giants said Holland is the first Giants player to win the award since safety Landon Collins in November 2016. Collins and cornerback Jason Sehorn, the December 1997 winner, were the only Giants defensive backs to win it before Holland.

The Giants also said Holland is one of two NFL players since 1970 with three or more interceptions, two or more forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in his team's first three games. Domingo Bryant of the 1987 Houston Oilers is the other.

"He's been our turnover guy on defense," coach John Harbaugh said of Holland after the Titans game.

Holland is in his sixth NFL season and his second with the Giants after four years in Miami. The Giants (2-1) host the Arizona Cardinals (1-2) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday on CBS.
