Giants Beat Titans 12-7 on Four Zvada Field Goals, Holland's Late Interception
Jameis Winston went 14 of 22 for 118 yards without a turnover in his first start of the season, and Brian Burns left in the fourth quarter with a knee injury.
Safety Jevón Holland intercepted Titans quarterback Cam Ward in the end zone in the final 30 seconds, and Dominic Zvada's four field goals held up as the Giants beat the Tennessee Titans 12-7 on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants are 2-1. Tennessee is 0-3.
Down five, the Titans started their last drive at their own 23 with 3:03 left and reached first-and-goal at the Giants' 7. Holland intercepted Ward's pass for Elic Ayomanor for a touchback. Holland has an interception in each of the Giants' three games.
Zvada, an undrafted rookie, made field goals of 39, 27, 39 and 30 yards, the third as the first half ended. Tennessee's touchdown came with 5:35 left in the game, when Ward found former Giants receiver Wan'Dale Robinson from 4 yards out. Titans kicker Joey Slye missed wide left from 59 yards late in the first half.
Jameis Winston, starting with Jaxson Dart out for the season with a knee injury, completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He was sacked three times for 18 yards. His longest completion, a 30-yard catch by Cam Skattebo on third-and-7, set up the first field goal. The Giants did not turn the ball over.
In rain and wind at MetLife, the Giants ran 33 times and threw 22 passes. Skattebo had 60 yards on 20 carries, and Najee Harris added 52 on nine.
Tennessee lost a fumble on the opening kickoff when the Giants' Zaire Barnes knocked the ball from returner Chimere Dike and Malik Harrison recovered. Five straight three-and-outs followed, and the Titans did not pick up a first down until late in the second quarter. In the third quarter, they turned the ball over on downs at the Giants' 7. Ward finished 23 of 36 for 181 yards, and Tony Pollard ran 17 times for 74.
The teams combined for 19 points. The over-under at DraftKings was 37.5.
Outside linebacker Brian Burns left with 11:02 to play with what the team listed as a knee injury. Burns, who missed practice all week with an ankle injury, came off the bench. Rookie cornerback Colton Hood was hurt on the Titans' touchdown and returned for the final drive. Cornerback Deonte Banks and safety Tyler Nubin were inactive with calf injuries.
