Pelissero: Giants' QB Addition Now a 'When, Not If' — Could Come as Soon as Monday
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported general manager Joe Schoen has worked the phones on quarterback trade targets since Dart's season-ending injury, naming Mac Jones and J.J. McCarthy among those drawing trade interest.
The Giants' addition of a quarterback beyond Jameis Winston and practice-squad passer Jake Haener is now "a matter of when, not if," and could come as soon as Monday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Saturday on X.
Pelissero, writing in his Substack newsletter, The Sweep, said general manager Joe Schoen has worked the phones on quarterback trade options since learning the severity of Dart's knee injury, sustained in a Week 2 loss to the Rams. He did not say why Monday specifically, which falls one day after the Giants host the Titans.
Pelissero named the 49ers' Mac Jones, the Vikings' J.J. McCarthy and the Saints' Spencer Rattler as quarterbacks who have drawn trade interest around the league in recent months, and listed the Chiefs' Justin Fields and the Cowboys' Joe Milton as backups who could be options. Free agent Jimmy Garoppolo remains available if he wants to keep playing, Pelissero reported.
Pelissero noted the move would not necessarily end Winston's turn as starter, pointing to the two-year, $13 million extension the Giants signed him to earlier this month.
Pelissero's report follows coach John Harbaugh's comments this week that the Giants were "in the process" of adding a quarterback.
Dart underwent surgery Friday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York to repair his MCL and meniscus, a procedure that typically requires four to six months of recovery, Pelissero reported.
