John Harbaugh raised ball security himself at the end of his Monday news conference, answering a question about how the Giants built their offense around Jaxson Dart. He offered it as an example of a principle that holds no matter who is playing.
"One of the things that is one of those non-negotiables is ball security," Harbaugh said, per the team's transcript. "We're putting the ball on the ground entirely too much. It's got to change. We've got to make the change on that. Every single ball carrier has got to make sure that it gets better, and it's up to us as coaches. We've got to drill it. We've got to teach it. We've got to make sure that we do it better because the ball's on the ground four times, and that's just not even close to being acceptable."
Harbaugh named no player. The Giants lost one of the four.
Patrick Ricard recovered Isaiah Likely's fumble in the first quarter of Sunday night's 28-20 win over Dallas, Jon Runyan Jr. recovered Dart's in the second and Cam Skattebo recovered his own in the fourth, The Associated Press reported.
The fourth belonged to Tyrone Tracy Jr. Quinnen Williams knocked the ball loose at the Dallas 21 with the score 7-7 in the second quarter, and Shavon Revel Jr. recovered for the Cowboys, ending a Giants drive. Tracy did not touch the ball again. He finished with two offensive snaps.
Harbaugh was not asked about the fumbles at any point in the session. He brought the subject up in his last answer of the afternoon.
The Giants play at the Rams on Monday.
