Nikko Reed's Reported Signing Hasn't Processed, Giants' Roster Still Shows 53
A day after ESPN's Jordan Raanan first reported the Giants were signing the cornerback off the Chargers' practice squad, the team's roster and transaction pages, plus Over the Cap and Spotrac, still show no sign of him.
The New York Giants' reported signing of cornerback Nikko Reed had not appeared on the team's official roster as of Friday, more than 24 hours after ESPN's Jordan Raanan first reported the move was underway.
Raanan reported Thursday afternoon in a post on X, citing sources also shared with colleague Kris Rhim, that the Giants were signing Reed off the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad to the active roster. The Giants entered the week short at cornerback: Paulson Adebo did not practice Thursday with a knee injury, and Deonte Banks and Greg Newsome II were limited, according to the team's official injury report. The Athletic's Dan Duggan confirmed the move and separately wrote on X that the Reed transaction "didn't process" that day, leaving the Giants "until tomorrow to open a spot on the 53 for him."
As of Friday, Giants.com listed Reed on no roster — not the 53-man active roster, the practice squad or injured reserve — and the team's own transaction tracker and Week 2 news tracker made no mention of him. Over the Cap's salary-cap page for the Giants independently showed the same absence, still counting 53 players on the Giants' active roster — the same total as before the reported signing. Spotrac's page showed the identical count.
Sports Illustrated's On SI reported the delay traces to the NFL's daily 4 p.m. transaction cutoff, writing that the Reed deal "went through after" it and that no corresponding roster move had been made. Which player, if any, the Giants would release, waive or place on injured reserve to open a spot for Reed had not been reported as of Friday.
