Giants Place Paulson Adebo on Injured Reserve, Sign Nikko Reed to Active Roster
Head coach John Harbaugh called it short-term IR for a knee issue that's lingered since camp. Reed, signed from the Chargers' practice squad, fills Adebo's spot on the 53-man roster a day after his signing had yet to show up on any roster.
The Giants placed cornerback Paulson Adebo on injured reserve and signed cornerback Nikko Reed to the active roster from the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad, Giants.com's Dan Salomone reported Friday afternoon, a day after GiantsGator reported the signing hadn't appeared on any roster.
Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters at his Friday news conference that Adebo was put on "short-term IR with a knee issue. Not a long-term knee issue, but one that's going to keep him out for a few weeks," according to a transcript posted by Big Blue Interactive's Corner Forum. Giants.com reported Adebo will miss at least the next four games.
Giants Wire's Dan Benton reported the move includes a designation to return, making Adebo eligible as early as Week 6, when the Giants host New Orleans.
Asked why the Giants added Reed, Harbaugh said: "Just the cornerback depth kind of looking at our situation there with Paulson. At this time of year it's good to be aggressive, especially at that position. There's still guys on the practice squad who won't last on the practice squad probably too much longer, so it was a good get for us."
Reed, 23, played five games for the Chargers last season as an undrafted rookie, mostly on special teams, after four years at Oregon and Colorado.
Cornerback Deonte Banks, who started over Adebo in Week 1, is "day-to-day" with a calf injury, Harbaugh said. Defensive lineman Chauncey Golston, offensive linemen Francis Mauigoa and Andrew Thomas, linebacker Micah McFadden and cornerback Greg Newsome II were all limited participants in Friday's practice, per Giants.com's injury report.
Adebo started 63 games in his career, including 12 with the Giants last season, and recorded two tackles on 10 defensive snaps and another on eight special-teams snaps in last Sunday's win over Dallas.
